The Beehive

Hello & welcome to the Beehive (formerly the Media Center). Our Beehive is a buzz with activity of children reading, learning, and creating through books, the Creation Station, Lego Wall, Magnetic Wall, and the Graffiti Wall.

The BMES Beehive mission statement is to ensure that students develop critical thinking skills, are effective and ethical users of resources, ideas, and information, and are enthusiastic readers and lifelong learners!

Let us introduce ourselves:

Becca Johnsen, Media Specialist

My name is Miss Johnsen, and I am the new Media Specialist at Black’s Mill!  You may recognize me, as I previously spent four years teaching third grade at BMES!  I was born and raised in Ohio, but knew I wanted to stay in the south when I went to college at Lee University in Tennessee.  After I graduated in 2014 with my Bachelor’s degree in Elementary and Middle Grades Education, I moved to Dawsonville to begin teaching.

I have loved school ever since I was a little girl, and always dreamed of one day being a teacher.  This year, you will be able to find me teaching lessons in the Media Center, running WBME, working on yearbook, and leading Little Tiger Theater Co. in two musical performances.

Outside of school, I enjoy photography, traveling, reading, and attending musicals.  I am excited to get to teach more about my love for reading this year in the library!

Karen Morgan, Media Assistant

I have always been a huge reader. I have fond memories of going to my elementary school book fair - so excited to buy a book for my very own. I still have a few of those books and passed them down to my daughter when she was young.

I have worked in the BMES library for 12 years and have worked for Dawson County Schools for a total of 16 years and I absolutely LOVE my job! From helping students find a good book to read, to encouraging them to keep trying their best in school, to telling them silly jokes, I love to interact with "my" students every day.

I grew up in Michigan, but have lived in Georgia for the past 32 years. My husband and I moved to Dawsonville in 1986 and truly love our community. We have a 32 year old son, Corey, daughter-in-law Kristen, 1 granddaughter, and 2 grandsons. We also have have a 22 year old daughter, Lizzie. My hobbies are reading ~ of course! ~ camping, and hanging with my family.

I look forward to helping your child(ren) find a book or two that will help them fall in love with reading and become a life long reader!
